Such a great country

IMGP2590Still reveling in the beauty of the Badlands, the majesty of seeing my four heroes immortalized in Mt. Rushmore, and the awe inspiring mysticism of Devils Tower, what more could one expect? Well, this country never disappoints.

We left Gillette, WY early Monday morning with a final destination of Jackson, WY. Our route took us through the most amazingly beautiful mountain scenery. Within a single day, we experienced temperatures as low as 30 degrees and as high as 68. We wound through Powder River Pass, an absolutely stunning mountainous route complete with snow dusted pine forests, stunning mountain peaks, and stellar scenery. Coming down from the pass, we drove through Tensleep Canyon and the Wind River Canyon before passing through Togwotee Pass. This second pass paled in comparison to Powder River, but as you reach the peak of the pass and begin your descent, you are rewarded with a commanding view of the Tetons! Oh what a sight.

We drove with the Tetons growing ever larger ahead of us, enjoying every moment, every turn, every new feature meeting the eye. At last, we arrived in Jackson with buffalo and mule deer greeting us at every turn.

The day was capped off with a visit with my brother, Brad, who has been a Jackson resident for more than 20 years. We visited a local brewery for dinner and conversation. I took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy some more buffalo by having the buffalo chili. Not much can beat it!

Tomorrow, we’re getting a real treat! My brother is a wildlife guide for Wildlife Expeditions here in Jackson. Tomorrow, he’s taking us to Grand Teton National Park for a day of animal spotting. We feel so honored to have his time, knowledge, and stories. Such a day to look forward to! I’ll hardly sleep tonight.

I’m loving this trip, the memories we’re having and the simple joy of being able to see our country
